Drag Factors

Car and Driver magazine defines drag factor as the coefficient of friction. Drag depends on the surface and is expressed as a fraction. While cement typically has a grade of 0.55 to 1.20, asphalt has a grade ranging anywhere from 0.50 to 0.90.

Common drag factor values:

Portland Cement

Portland Cement: 0.55 to 1.20

Asphalt

Asphalt: 0.50 to 0.90

Gravel

Gravel: 0.40 to 0.80

Icy Road

Ice: 0.10 to 0.25

Snowy Road

Snow: 0.10 to 0.55
